Aren’t you ashamed to the 12 American officers and 35 crew of the 10,000-ton Meredith Victory, who risked their lives to rescue 14,000 Korean refugees?
How about you, Mr. Roh, Chung, Kim, and other followers?

친애하는 한국국민 여러분!
14,000명의한국피난민을 구하기 위하여 생명의 위험을 무릅썼던 Meredith Victory호의 12명의 미군장교들과 35명의 승무원에게 부끄럽지 않으십니까?
노형, 정형, 김형 및 노사모 떨거지외 추종자들은 어떤가? 전혀 부끄럽지 않은가?

As I wrote in my last message, the New York Times published an article implying that S. Korea has given up its constitutional responsibility for fear of spreading black clouds over “Sunshine Policy.”
In fact, the Roh’s regime has tried to keep DJ’s sunshine policy free of clouds at the cost of justice, freedom, and truth.
Thus, to many Americans, S. Korea is no more an independent free country and is no more a true allied country, since S. Korea discards the highest values that a country should hold for its existence.

내 지난 글에서 썼듯이 뉴욕타임즈는, 한국이 '햇볕정책'에 먹구름이 드리워질까 두려워 자신의 헌법적 책임을 포기했음을 시사하는 기사를 냈습니다.
사실, 노 정권은 DJ의 햇볕정책에 구름을 드리우지 않기 위하여 정의, 자유, 그리고 진실을 희생시켰습니다.

The NY Times also pointed out that under bills, now in the National Assembly, S. Koreans would be allowed to freely access N. Korean Web sites and to travel to N. Korea.
S. Korea’s official defense papers would no longer describe N Korea as the main enemy.
Many Americans believe that S. Korea will fall to the evil regime of Kim Jong IL if other bills would end national security laws banning advocacy of North Korea’s Communist system.

뉴욕타임즈는 또한, 국회 내 계류 중인 법안이 통과되면 한국인들은 자유롭게 북한 웹사이트에 접속할 수도 북한을 여행할 수도 있게 된다는 것을 지적했습니다.

And then, the New York Times completely drives S. Korea to the corner by publishing what it has not been published in Korea :
“When the North called South Korean officials "wicked terrorists" for airlifting 468 North Korean defectors from Vietnam to Seoul, the South promised not to do it again.”

My Dear S. Koreans.  At first time, I could not believe my eyes the line saying :
“THE SOUTH PROMISED NOT TO DO IT AGAIN.”

Promise not to do it again? Oh, my goodness!!
This article continues only to finally put S. Korea into a manure pail by adding the following shameful lines :
“Although South Korea has admitted only 5,000 North Koreans during the last half century, Chung Dong Young, the South's unification minister, asked the private groups that were helping the North Koreans to stop.”

다시 그렇게 하지 않겠다는 약속이라구요? 오 이럴 수가!! 약속이라니! 약속이라니!

After the article was published that the unification minister, Chung Dong-Young, a strong Presidential candidate in the next election, asked the private groups, who were helping the North Korean defectors running away from the people’s paradise and arriving at Seoul, to stop, many Korean-Americans were stunned and speechless, because they could see the dark tunnel waiting for their homeland.

다음선거의 강력한 대권주자인 정동영 통일부장관이, 탈북자들이 그 인민의 낙원(???) 을 탈출하여 서울에 도착하는 것을 돕는 민간단체들에게, 중단할 것을 요구했다는 그 기사가 나간 이후에 많은 재미동포들은 놀라고 할말을 잃었습니다.
왜냐하면 그들은 조국 앞에 기다리고 있는 어두운 터널을 볼 수가 있었기 때문입니다.

Minister Chung not only threw away his responsibility for rescuing his own people from the evil regime, but also deserted his own miserable people and asked his own people to give up doing the righteous things.
Well, sorry to say, but Mr. Chung, you showed what you really are, a tool for an evil man, by asking those private groups to stop helping our poor North Korean brothers.

I already knew this story, but after I read it again, I could not stop my tears.
Where are those 14000 refugees saved by the Meredith Victory now.
When the US armed forces are withdrawing from S. Korea due to Roh and his followers’ anti-America movement, why are they so quiet?
Were they all already dead?

It figures that few know the story of what's been dubbed the greatest rescue operation in maritime history.
It is, after all, the forgotten rescue in the forgotten battle of the forgotten war..

All of the passengers, cramped in unsanitary conditions and thirsting for a first taste of water in three days, survived.

Somehow the trip was eclipsed by other stories from the front, and fears that the so-called police action would erupt into World War III.
Even former White House Chief of Staff Alexander Haig, a young Army captain who played an instrumental role in the evacuation, knew very littile about the ship's role.
The Meredith Victory is "a story that virtually no one knows and no one knew except perhaps some archivists at the Defense Department," said Bruce Carlton, acting administrator of the U.S. Maritime Administration.

Not long after the war broke out on June 25, 1950, the 12 officers and 35 crew of the 10,000-ton Meredith Victory left Norfolk on a mission to carry supplies - mostly ammunition, tanks and trucks - between Japan and Korea.
The ship provided supplies during the famous battle at Inchon.

The Meredith Victory, carrying about 500 tons of jet fuel, was ordered to the harbor at Hungnam in North Korea, 135 miles into enemy territory.
Nearly 100,000 North Korean refugees had gathered on the beach at the Sea of Japan, desperate the escape the narrowing perimeter and the advancing 120,000 North Korean and Chinese soldiers.
The Communists, suspecting that the North Korean people were helping the enemy, didn't hesitate to kill them.

"Korean refugees thronged the docks. With them was everything they could wheel, carry or drag. Beside them, like frightened chicks, were their children." Said junior engineer Merl Smith : "It was utter chaos on the shoreline. You wouldn't believe the mass of people."

As the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry held off the attackers, several Army leaders approached Capt. LaRue about taking on the refugees.
They were to be evacuated after the 100,000 U.N. forces, who had been forced to retreat from the Chosin Reservoir.

The Meredith Victory, one of 193 ships gathered in the harbor at the same time, began loading its new cargo - mostly old men, women and infants - in the afternoon, continued into the night and finished in the morning.

Mothers and boys barely in their teens had babies strapped to their backs. Men did too, and some carried a child in each arm.

With no mine detection equipment, the vessel headed out to sea through 30 miles of "one of the heaviest mine fields in the history of naval warfare," Mr. Gilbert said.

"As Captain LaRue said later, what has been called the greatest rescue operation by a single ship in the history of mankind could have become the greatest disaster," Mr. Gilbert said.

"They had been punished, especially the Catholics."

The crew pulled up anchor and headed farther south, ending up at a small island called Koje Do. They gradually unloaded the passengers in LSTs - including the five babies born during the voyage.
